Yellow monkeyflower (Mimulus guttatus), California

Mariposa lily, Montana

Dessicated bud of a Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla patens), found at around 10,000 feet on the Beartooth Plateau, Montana. It seems to have been killed by cold just before it could open, and now is a pretty but dried husk. Such are the risks of living at high elevation.
