The adults of this species are green, "normal"-looking katydids, but these small nymphs are incredible ant mimics -- notice the green portion of the lower abdomen that disappears as if part of the surrounding leaves, leaving the impression of an ant-shaped abdomen. Lots of arthropods mimic ants -- since ants often bite and/or sting, many predators leave them alone -- so pretending to be an ant can be a good way to avoid being eaten.
